Hello. my name is Honoka. Today, with the help of my friend V, who works for my favorite company, Poste Italiane, I will write an article about “a list of abbreviations used in the Italian post office”.

CTD

CTD stands for contratto a tempo determinato, which means “fixed-term employment contract”. In other words, CTD in Poste Italiane means “employees who have fixed-term employment in Poste Italiane”. In the case of a fixed-term contract, it seems that the contract period is about one year in many cases, but after that period, it may lead to employment for indefinite employment (until the retirement age). CTD is used by postal carriers (portalettere) and not by managers. Experiencing the wonderful world of Poste Italiane as CTD is the most common way to work at Poste Italiane. It is the elite’s job to work at Poste Italiane, as it is usually required to score 70 or higher on the high school graduation exam.

AD

AD means amministratore delegato and is equivalent to the English CEO (Chief Executive Officer). The AD in Poste Italiane as of November 2021 is Matteo del Fante. He is a senior graduate of Bocconi University in Milan. The word AD itself is also used by Italian companies other than Poste Italiane. However, as the number of multinational companies has increased in recent years, it is more common to use the CEO written in English. However, Poste Italiane is often an Italian term because it was an Italian state-owned enterprise in the past. In my opinion, I want Poste Italiane to continue to use Italian.

CMP

CMP stands for Centro di meccanizzazione postale, which literally means “postal mechanization center”. Unfortunately, you cannot enter for sightseeing purposes because you must be an employee of Poste Italiane to enter the CMP. There are many videos showing CMP on YouTube. According to Wikipedia, the CMPs currently in Italy are located in: Ancona, Bari, Bologna, Brescia, Cagliari, Catania, Florence, Genova, Milan, Naples, Padua, Palermo, Fiumicino (near Rome, famous because of the airport), Turin, Venezia, Verona, etc. When mail is sent through CMP, the postmark says CMP. This postmark is so beautiful!

SDA

SDA stands for “shipping and delivery agency”.

SDA is known as a kind and attentive courier company and has a large share in Italy. SDA is a subsidiary of Poste Italiane and has a close relationship. As evidence, Poste Italiane’s official YouTube (with 30,000 enthusiastic registrants as of 2021) also deals with SDA quite often. If you’re looking for a courier in Italy, there’s no other company on the right side of SDA. Unfortunately, Amazon in Italy does not allow you to choose a courier, and in many cases your courier will carry it, but many other mail orders use SDA and Poste Italiane quite a lot.
Headquarters (sede legale): Viale Europa 175, 00144 Roma
AD (Chief Executive Officer) is Gabriele Di Marzio.
