My job – language and its beauty
I have 2 years of work experience (since 2020) as a freelance translator and Japanese teacher. My passion is languages and I currently speak Japanese (my native language), English and Italian fluently. I am eager to learn other languages. Japanese is a difficult language to teach and learn, but it is an emotional, sensitive and polite language. Learning it will not only give me easier access to Japan and Japanese culture, but also allow me to express my feelings more concretely. The Italian I have taught myself is a very clear and simple language. When you are happy, you can express your joy; when you are sad, you can be there for those you love and tell them you love them; when you are angry, you can turn your feelings into words with a rich and abusive vocabulary. Language is a mirror of a country’s culture, history, and national character, and knowing a language will help you better understand your friends around the world who live in different cultures. Language should not be just a means or rote study, but a door to lower the barriers of national borders. Through my work as a translator and Japanese teacher, I fall in love with the depth and fascination of languages every day. It is my dream to continue this journey for the rest of my life, which will never end, no matter how many years I spend learning. I am very happy and satisfied to be able to work in a language I love.
My carrer of NPO Bousai Italia
My other dream is to be involved in psychosocial support for disaster victims. For survivors, it is very difficult to walk away and rebuild their lives after a sudden tragedy. This is because what the disaster took away from them is everything in their lives – the lives of their loved ones, the homes they lived in, the community they lived in, their jobs, their studies, etc. In order to help them, we believe that it is important to accompany them in their life’s journey on a long-term basis, never as a short-term volunteer. This is because their lives will go on, and disasters are never “temporary rains. Rain makes the ground softer and more vulnerable to further disasters. However, rain also allows plants and trees to grow. It is not 100 percent sad what disasters bring, but it is still very difficult to walk away again. And I want to spread “Disaster Prevention (Bousai)” from Italy to the world. Because there are many lives that can be saved by disaster prevention. We cannot change the sad things that happened in the past, but it is possible to reduce the number of people who suffer the same fate. To do so, we need to establish a culture of disaster prevention through disaster education. In Norcia, where Japanese disaster prevention know-how was introduced, there were no human casualties when the earthquake struck; in Amatrice, a city not far from Norcia, the emphasis was on tourism and the lives of citizens, rather than disaster prevention, and the city was severely damaged. This shows the necessity of disaster prevention. Changing a nation is not an easy task, but I believe that educating each citizen about disaster prevention will eventually become the power to change the nation and the world. This is the guiding principle of the NPO Bousai Italia, of which I am the president.
