Hello. I have never specifically attempted suicide (depending on the definition of suicide attempt), but I have been hospitalized in psychiatry because I thought I would die many times. So I think there’s something I can say about suicide.
First: If you or someone you know is in danger of life, don’t hesitate to call 118 (119 in Japan). The police are fine. The number is 112 (110 in Japan).
In fact, when you have to call an ambulance, it’s not just about suicide, but it’s common to panic enough to forget even the number. That’s why I wrote.
Opinion that “you’ll go to hell and suffer forever”
In many religions, to prevent suicide, they said, “If you commit suicide, you will go to hell and suffer forever.” “If you commit suicide, you will have a worse life.” “If you commit suicide, you cannot live a happy afterlife.” They try to stop suicide in a threatening way. That method may have some effect, but I think it can only be a threat to those who are really hard.
But no one knows about the afterlife. We may be nothing, and we may be saved from sorrow and suffering. Perhaps, “You have suffered enough to commit suicide, so let me send you the best afterlife.” No one likes to commit suicide. As a result of suffering more than enough, they think there is no other way, despair, and commit suicide. Of course, suicide is life-threatening, so you can’t kill it without causing considerable pain. There are many ways, but no one is easy. As long as you can’t euthanize, it’s not easy and you’ll suffer no matter which way you choose to die. However, it should be remembered that suicide occurs as a result of determining that living suffering is greater than that suffering.
Opinion that “suicide is not allowed due to punishment”
People who believe in religion often mean things like “it’s rude to God to commit suicide” and “I’m sorry for the parents who gave birth to you.” I’m a Christian, but I never say that. Because God is the one who should save everyone, not the one who hunts down anyone. You can also argue with your parents: “I wasn’t born of my own will. It doesn’t matter to me because I’m here for reasons that have nothing to do with my will.” In fact, the relationship with parents is the spirit. It can also cause illness and even commit suicide. My parents love me, I’m grateful for it, and I love my parents too. But that doesn’t apply to everyone. There are many parents who abuse their children, have no affection, do not understand, and intentionally bother them.
Opinion that “suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem “
Such phrases are often used in English-speaking countries.
“suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem” This is sinful. Not everyone who says this is malicious, but it is a word that often hunts down people. Incredibly, some consultation dials and support groups say the same thing.
The only people who think this is true are those who are mentally healthy. They believe that every problem has an end and there is a solution. And we know that the solution is realistic and feasible. However, those who are driven to the point of thinking about suicide believe that this problem is unsolvable and that there is no solution other than suicide. This is a phenomenon called “psychological tunnel vision,” which applies to many people suicidal.
There is a saying, “There is no endless rain.” But some people in the rain think this rain will never end. And I can’t think of a solution, such as building a simple barracks, holding an umbrella, or running away where it’s not raining. They would think: I need money to build a barracks, but I don’t have it. I have to know how to put an umbrella, but I don’t know how to use an umbrella. I have to fly to get away where it’s not raining, but I’m afraid of heights so that’s impossible. I have no way left. So it will freeze to death in this rain. If I die, I won’t get wet anymore. Then I should die.
To close
Those who are thinking of committing suicide are definitely those who have suffered. People who are mentally healthy, happy, and filled do not want to commit suicide. In many cases, support from the fields of psychiatry and psychology is effective, and it is better to go to a psychiatrist or psychologist, but not everyone can do it, and everyone improves. It can’t be done, and above all, it has no immediate effect. The best thing to do is to use a tranquilizer (a tranquilizer that you only take when you have symptoms).
Or you could think of it like this. In many cases, the extremely strong desire for death will be a little easier in an hour or so. So if you can endure that hour, then you’ll definitely be a little, really a little, but easier.
