Hello, world! (This is a famous phrase for those who are studying computer science because this is the first program to make the beginning students)

A story about a prompt engineer

Yesterday, I heard about “prompt engineer”. Putting it simply, they are”a bridge” between AI and the person who uses AI. The most attractive point is that the prompt engineer can get as much as 350,000 USD for a year! In Japan, the average salary for one person in a lifetime is about 1,500,000 USD, so if only they work for 5 years, they can do FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early). If I could become a prompt engineer, I could have a house in Italy and I could put every book that I like in this house! This sweet dream is not faded away from me, but today I had to see the reality.

The reality

Today I had a class about computer science at my university. I asked the teacher about this dream: to become a prompt engineer to get a lot of money…!
He taught me a lot of things, but one answer that I reached is that becoming a prompt engineer is not the good one.
First, now we need some talented prompt engineers but it’s because AI (like ChatGPT) is a “baby” and they need an “interpreter” to communicate, or to talk with them. But AI can become an “adult”. To grow up them and to be more easy to talk to, many specialists are studying to improve them. That help and growth mean that we can talk without an “interpreter”; a prompt engineer.

How can we be a person who can get a lot of money, and what can we do now as a university student?

My dream is to get a lot of money. To become rich, we need to study. But what, and how?
If we need the skill of Python to work, we can study it later, not now. If we need to use C++, we can do it later, not now. Of course, I don’t say that we don’t need to study them, but it depends on the society or the company that we will work for.
Instead, we had better study things in general, like we study every new thing at our university (linguistics, psychology, mathematics, sociology… Every field!),
Not some specific study about how to become a specific job, but many fields of study, the latter will serve well later.
We had better be curious about everything and we had better have passion to study. Not only for engineering but for all of these “professional” jobs, we need to be up-to-date in our minds and our brain. To do that, these 3 years will be useful. Also, we had better have a good GPA.
